On July 25th the U.S. House of Representatives passed Ron Paul's "Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2012" (HR 459) by a wide, bipartisan vote of 327-98. The bill would require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct comprehensive audits of the Fed’s Board of Governors and 12 regional banks, whose actions directly influence U.S. monetary policy, inflation, and the economy.
Among those voting FOR this important bill were all five of Iowa's U.S. Representatives: 1st District- Bruce Braley (D); 2nd Dist.- Dave Loebsack (D); 3rd Dist.- Leonard Boswell (D); 4th Dist.- Tom Latham (R); 5th Dist.- Steve King (R). All five were also co-sponsors of the bill. Good work gang!
The bill will now move to the Senate where it faces a rocky future. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley (R) is already a co-sponsor of the companion bill in the Senate (S.202). Unfortunately, our junior senator, Tom Harkin (D), appears okay with allowing the Fed to control our country's monetary system in secrecy. IFC To Host 3rd Annual Rally
Save the date August 25th. On that day Iowa Firearms Coalition, Iowa's premiere gun rights group, will be hosting its third annual Second Amendment Rally. The event will be from 9am to 5 pm at the Brownell's Big Springs Range Complex outside Searsboro Iowa. Admission is FREE for everyone. No range fees for IFC or NRA members.
The keynote speaker will be Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. According to IFC's Rally Homepage, other activities will include:

Cowboy Action Shooters demonstration- SASS
IDPA demonstration

Happy Independence Day
On July 4th, 1776 the American Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence which stated that the American states are "Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved[.]" "With a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence," the signers pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor.
236 years later we still honor this date, if not always the ideals of the Declaration. For instance, a recent Rasmussan Reports survey finds that only 70% of Americans agree with the Declaration's central idea that governments derive their only just powers from the consent of the governed.
Nonetheless, I wish everyone a happy and free Independence Day.
