I can't see the present or any foreseeable governor authorizing them.Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13153793623409748857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688132033910740483.post-16446117426282661342014-10-20T21:41:23.125-05:002014-10-20T21:41:23.125-05:00Interesting, I wonder what your thoughts would be ...Interesting, I wonder what your thoughts would be about Independent Militia Companies (provided each one is authorized by the governor)?Jakenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6688132033910740483.post-15406255679743609882014-10-20T09:41:28.177-05:002014-10-20T09:41:28.177-05:00Thank you Jake. While what you say is true, I thin...Thank you Jake. While what you say is true, I think it is important to have the organization formed BEFORE you need it. Right now the Iowa State Guard exists only as an idea on paper in the Iowa code section you cite. If the Iowa National Guard (ING) is largely deployed overseas and a catastrophe strikes here at home, that would be the worst time to try to find available and willing militiamen, rustle up equipment, appoint leaders and ncos, figure out organization structure, etc...

Also, a permanent Iowa State Guard could provide valuable assistance even if the ING wasn't federalized. In my tenure with the ING it was seldom if ever that we trained on state duties. I deal with some of the advantages of a State Guard in previous posts.

Thank you for your comments!Benhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13153793623409748857noreply@blogger.com
